General Submission Guidelines

  • Submissions should be formatted as a single Word document and set in 12 point Times New Roman.

  • We accept only original, unpublished work. Work cannot have appeared/be currently featured in print or digitally—e.g. personal sites, blogs, etc.

  • We will not honor multiple submissions. Simultaneous submissions are welcome, although we request that you immediately inform us in the event that a piece is selected elsewhere. For administrative convenience, this should be done through the messages feature in Submittable.

  • Submit no more than once every 120 days. Past contributors are advised to resubmit no sooner than one year from date of last publication.

Poetry Submission Guidelines

  • Please submit up to five poems.

  • We consider translations of poetry and prefer to publish these alongside the original text, which should be included in submissions of translations. Upon acceptance, we will ask the translator to obtain the appropriate permission for the original text to appear in DIALOGIST (with attribution, if the source poetry has appeared previously).

Criticism (Prose) Submission Guidelines

  • We are interested in reviews of poetry books or chapbooks; close readings of a single poems or groups of poems; considerations of multiple books of poems that are thematically or formally linked; and other entries in critical conversation with the field. We seek pieces that engage with a reviewed work’s methods, context, and/or significance, and welcome a range of forms.

  • If a close reading, please include a copy of the text of the passages that form the subject of your piece. For books or chapbooks, please provide relevant bibliographic information.

  • Please keep submissions to approximately 800 – 1500 words in length


DIALOGIST is self-funded and does not charge for submissions, although we welcome contributions made via submissions through our Tip Jar option. While we make every effort to respond as promptly as possible, please do not query until 90 days have passed. If you have not received a formal acceptance or rejection, your work remains under active consideration. Unfortunately, we do not yet provide compensation for published works.

Upon selection and publication, we retain exclusive online publication rights of your work for 90 days and ask that you acknowledge DIALOGIST as the work’s first appearance in any subsequent collection in which the work appears. After 90 days, we release publication rights back to you. Your work will remain indefinitely active within our archive, following initial stand-alone publication.
