Azi Amiri was born and grew up in Tehran, Iran, and recently completed an MFA at New York University. Attention to the ongoing interaction between present and past has contributed to and continues to shape her practice as an artist. Her works, predominantly in the medium of printmaking and painting, create a collaged delusion of a dreamy and quiet environment in which small details invite the viewer to step closer and linger. Incorporating actual objects (her worn scarves, used kitchen gloves, braided human hair) in the process of art making offers viewers traces of her personal experiences. Her artworks have been shown in Art Dubai 2015, Employee Art Show at Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as the 80WSE gallery in New York. She has been shortlisted for the MOP CAP competition, which is a worldwide search for the next generation of Iranian artists who have the potential to make a significant impact in their field. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
