James Powers was born in Ireland in 1986 and currently lives in Brooklyn. His studio practice is a winding detour through the ecologies of the landscape and expanding mechanisms of art-making—the porous translation of data. These selected works are made through ocean simulation software and manipulation of Google Earth terrain. He holds an AB in Government, as well as Visual and Environmental Studies from Harvard University, and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has worked for Bruce High Quality Foundation, directed a gallery (Parade Ground, LES), and currently works for artist Mel Bochner. Powers has been featured in group shows in NYC, Istanbul, London, and Cologne. His work can be found online at: www.jamespowersjr.com.
