Artist Statement: The series Dream State describes the moment before falling asleep where the conscious and subconscious meet. Bed sized pieces of Tyvek painted with acrylic and ink capture the inherent freedom of her subconscious and become a visual diary of the occurrences within her space.
Audrey Stommes grew up in Sioux Falls, SD where she also graduated cum laude with a Pre-Professional Art Major from Augustana College. She was a resident of the New York Center for Art and Media Studies in Manhattan, NY. In the spring of 2013, Stommes received her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Painting and Drawing. Audrey has received several grants as well as exhibited her work nationally. Awards include the Vreeland Award from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Exhibitions she has been in are Bradley University Gallery’s 34th Bradley International Print and Drawing Exhibition, Coagula Curatorial Group Show, and Nebraska State Museum Solo Exhibition Origins. Grants include Hixson-Lied Center Travel Grant and Creative and Activities Grant.
